Band biography:

 The beginnings (1997-2000)

Lanomisa was formed in 1997 by four young friends in the small town of Finsterwalde in East Germany. Sebastian Wala (vocals), Rico “Schnegge” Neumann (drums), David Koch (guitar), and Karsten Pätz (bass) had a shared passion for music and decided to join forces. Influenced by artists and bands such as Miles Davis, Curtis Mayfield, Primus, Motorpsycho, Sofa Surfers, Red Snapper, Tortoise and many more, they wanted to create their own, modern sound that was both complex and emotionally touching. They developed a unique style early on, characterized by Sebastian's charismatic voice, David's elaborate guitar work, Karsten's driving bass lines and Rico's dynamic drumming. Their music was a mixture of intricate rhythms, unusual time signatures and atmospheric soundscapes. They wrote their own songs and rehearsed intensively in an old basement room, which they had turned into their musical retreat. They quickly made a name for themselves in their hometown and the surrounding regions. Despite their young age, their performances were characterized by a distinct musical maturity. Their concerts were an experience characterized by surprises and the band's joy of experimentation.

Break-up and new paths (2000-2024)

After four intensive years in which they gave numerous concerts and recorded an album and several demos, the members of Lanomisa went their separate ways at the turn of the century. Still to this day, the reasons for this are unclear. After moving to Berlin, Sebastian and Rico played together in the band “Sinfuroco” for many years. David also formed the band “Fuzzwalk” there and later his solo project “News from nowhere”. Karsten went to Cottbus, where he incorporated his musical ideas into theater work and continues to stage plays to this day. Since 2010, David has lived in Brooklyn, New York, where he formed the band “The grey man” and also continued to work on his solo career as “David Kay”. There he released several albums. A few concerts in 2016 and 2017 brought him back to his old homeland, where he reunited with Karsten to present his songs.

Reunion and new beginning (2024-present)
After almost 25 years, in January 2024, the four former band members reunited. It was a spontaneous decision following the discovery of unfinished songs on a few old 4-track tapes. The idea to revive Lanomisa came from a shared nostalgia and the desire to reinvent the old sound. The reunion was a success. They immediately started working on new material and were inspired by the songs they found. The new music reflected the maturity and experience each individual had gained over the years. Their sound still had the complexity and atmospheric elements of the early period, but it was now deeper and more emotional. Their new songs combined the experimental soundscapes of Rico and Karsten with the technical virtuosity of David and the mature belting sound of singer Sebastian. The outcome of the January recording sessions is a 5 song EP. The songs on this EP deal with themes such as loss, disappointment, and criticism of society and psyche. But they also cover ideas about departure, rediscovery and the search for one's own voice. They are intended to inspire without influencing with hope being an anchor and a central image. The songs address the battles worth fighting, the mundane routines that you wish to escape and naturally the fun and joy of a sometimes “slighty altered” lifestyle. Lanomisa have returned after 25 years, stronger and more experienced. With their new EP, a clear vision and a well thought out plan for the future, they are on the verge of finding their deserved place in the scene. Their journey is proof that it's never too late to pursue your musical dreams.
